To the English Teacher,
As the name implies, Word Building Activities for beginners of English has been designed and developed to provide simple reference material for students at the beginner level of English language learning.
This resource can be used as foundation material to establish a repertoire of words and simple sentences from which beginner students can build and extend their knowledge. Many of the pages provide worksheets where students are actively involved in matching words to pictures. In contrast to a picture dictionary, where the words and pictures are already labelled, using this resource aids consolidation of meaning as students write the words themselves. In addition to creating accessible reference material, this process develops writing and spelling skills and raises confidence as the stock of words and phrases increases.
This book also provides complementary material for the student workbook English Language Skills - Level 1 (Boyer Educational Resources, 2009). As the activities
in this book follow the same topics as the units in English Language Skills - Level 1, they can be used to introduce or revise lessons.
Additionally, where low level classes have students with varying abilities, the activities in this book can be used with students who need more and simpler language building practice.
The material has been designed to be used in a classroom with teacher support. However, answers are provided at the back of the book to enable individual, self-paced activities if preferred.
